Errand Into the Maze Ring, Silver

Errand Into the Maze Ring, Silver

$168.00

A collaboration between Kate Walz and Aveta Studio, the ring takes inspiration from the 1947 Martha Graham dance “Errand into the Maze”, with set design by Isamu Noguchi.

In the dance, a woman faces battle with a minotaur-like creature three times, eventually conquering him and freeing herself. The dance’s original program notes “There is an errand into the maze of the heart’s darkness in order to face and do battle with the Creature of Fear. There is the accomplishment of the errand, the instant of triumph, and the emergence of dark.”

The ring takes its form from the dance’s key set piece “Pelvic Bone”, by Noguchi. “Noguchi designed a set that consisted of a v-shaped frame, like the crotch of a tree or the pelvic bones of a woman.” We mimicked that shape in our design, wrapping the pelvic bone around the wearer’s finger.

At the end of the dance, the woman dances between the pelvic bone structure, and steps into the light as the curtain falls.

Handcrafted in sterling silver.
